Spamburger Meatballs

spamI have not eaten Spam since my Mama fried it for us as kids.  My memory of it is not terrible but I never bought it or cooked it myself-until now.  The travel channel is to blame.  I was watching a show featuring Hawaii and apparently the people there eat a lot of it.  There was no way I was eating it unless it was mixed with something else (canned shaped meat-weird) so I came up with the meatball idea.  Since it is already very salty I did not add any additional sodium.  With the sweet chili sauce glaze they were pretty good.  Never hurts to give something a whirl.  Tomorrow I will get back to my routine-just been a lazy weekend for us.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 can Spam
  • 1/3 cup instant potatoes
  • 1/3 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili paste
  • 1 teaspoon ginger

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix all ingredients together except for the sweet chili sauce.  Mix well with hands until well blended.  Refrigerate the mixture for at least an hour then shape into balls.  Bake for 30-40 minutes.  Poue sweet chili sauce over the balls.

Have a great evening!

  1. Spam itself is really weird but meatballs is an interesting idea. I haven’t eaten it in years, but we would always pan fry it. That makes a huge difference in the taste as opposed to just eating it out of the can, so the meatballs must be good. 🙂

  2. I’ve heard that about Hawaii, they use it in sushi even. It’s the national food or something like that. My Mom also fried it for breakfast and we had over easy eggs and toast with it, I actually really liked it that way, Your spam meatballs sound really good. Spam was the secret ingredient in Kathy Bates meatloaf in Misery.
